British Council  UK – Egypt Trans-National Education (TNE) Grants 2023-24

Driving Digital Transformation: Collaborative Curriculum Design for Smart IoT Systems in UK-Egypt Transnational Education

Project Description:

Newcastle University (NCL) has successfully developed the Internet of Things (IoTs) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) module (EEE8121) for MSc teaching, with annual student intake numbers ranging from 30 (2016) to 166 (2023). This module is open to students from various disciplines, including engineering, computer science, and biomedicine. Nile University is interested in translational research and industry related topics. On the other hand IoT is essential topic for modern industry, health care system and it's applied and used in different places in Egypt such as smart cities (the new Capital). So, graduate engineers with strong background in IoT are needed in Egypt and Middle East as well. Actually, Nile University has updated some courses to include IoT in its teaching program such as ECEN 435 for undergraduate and MSD 670 for post-graduate students. Based on the success above and emerging AI application and digital twins, our proposal is to expand the success of this module to benefit students in general engineering and digital engineering at Newcastle, as well as those studying Design at Northumbria University and in Egypt for both undergraduate and MSc teaching. This expansion aligns with the goal of preparing students for the global digital transformation and the growing applications of emerging AI technologies.
